Not under God?

Recently the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals refused to re-visit last years ruling that the phrase “one nation, under God” may not be spoken in government schools. The court was concerned that those now prohibited words might constitute an “establishment of religion” in violation of the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The Americans United for Separation of Church and State (AUSCS) welcomed the Ninth Circuit's decision. "The government should not link religion and patriotism," said Barry Lynn, executive director of AUSCS. "Public schools cannot coerce children into taking part in religious exercises, even seemingly benign and generic ones. The phrase 'under God' may seem innocuous to many, but to those who object to it, nothing less than freedom of conscience is at stake." (Christian Times March 3, 2003)

I have a few questions about that. When did government schools start coercing students to say the pledge at all, much less the words “under God”? And since when did merely acknowledging that there is a God constitute a religion? Where is the religion that truly acknowledges the existence of God and otherwise ignores Him? And finally, upon what is the conscience of an atheist founded anyway? Surely it must be founded on thin air since they will admit to no higher power than their own whim to govern them. These are the people for whom laws must be written and punishments put in place, because without these, there is nothing else to restrain their actions.

And that point is, the court ruled as it did, not because they fear the establishment of a religion, but because they fundamentally disagree with the assertion that this nation is “under God”. If establishment were the issue, it would be simple enough to just allow children to opt out of the pledge, or to substitute the name of the child’s favorite deity for God. But they do not fear establishment of religion, they fear the sovereignty of God.

By denying that we are one nation under God, the court says one of these three things: “We are one nation equal to God”, or “We are one nation over God” or “We are god, and there shall be no other god before us”. All three of these are startlingly dangerous statements, but one of them leaps out as truth when we consider the context of other recent court decisions. From privacy rights to homosexual rights to patients rights and litigation rights, the courts have granted new and previously unknown privileges to the favored few while at the same time destroying the right to life, property and the people’s representation in this “legislature from the bench”. They have forgotten that rights are granted by God and governments are established to protect those rights, not create them.

The courts now make law instead of administering or interpreting it. Precedence is their guideline, and so one wrong decision can be perpetuated and magnified forever, ignoring the plain reading of the Constitution. So we have been endowed by the courts (who think they are gods) with certain unalienable rights (until they change their minds), Life (if you are the right age, the right size and in the right place), Liberty (as long as you don’t have an opinion), and the right to kill your offspring in the name of ‘privacy’ and the pursuit of happiness. Our courts are out of control.

My daughter says that we live in Rome, but it’s not quite that bad yet. Even though we did have our own little imitation of Caligula here recently, we’re not quite to the Roman Empire stage. But it could happen quickly if God’s people remain as brainwashed as we are. The right to abortion is set forth nowhere in any law passed by Congress. It has been fabricated from nothing at the whim of the courts of this country. Pretending to be compassionate and caring toward women, their decision has destroyed a generation of our own people and injured their would-be parents by the millions. Over one million of the unborn are executed every year for reason that make no sense at all.

“Abortion is emergency contraception”. Contraception can only be accomplished before conception. After conception, a woman has already achieved reproduction. Contra-reproduction would be a more plausible term for it and it still boils down to murder.

“They might be abused”. In other words, the unborn are better off dead than to face any possibility of being abused?

“Every child a loved and wanted child”. This one sounds so sweet, but what is meant here is that if you don’t love your child or if you don’t want your child, you may kill your child. Sick.

I am convinced that people of this nation, if they believe these lies, are brainwashed as much as the people of Germany were in the 1930’s and 1940’s. We should have learned then that when those who claim to be “under God” are silent and acquiesce to evils such as these, the helpless and the innocent perish.

The government of this country belongs to the people and I believe that we the people will be held accountable by God for the actions of our government including our courts. Who is to blame when Federal Judges make themselves out to be monarchs and demigods? Who put them in that position? Who elected those who put them in that position? They are the ones to blame, and they are us.

The court was right to say that this nation is not under God, it’s true. We have thrown off God and rebelled against His Law. Still, by the grace of God, a window of opportunity remains when we can change our country, and that change needs to start with the individual; with you and me.

"If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. - 2 Chronicles 7:14

God doesn’t expect the lost to change their ways, but from those who claim to be under God, He expects more.
